Pinterest is downright evil. There I said it.
I like to believe I'm a 'realist' when it comes to my pinning on Pinterest. I do not have that board of 'Dream House' with extravagant kitchens or backyard pools. I do not have that board of 'My Style' with outfits laid out that look good in photo, but aren't a reality for me. That's not to say I don't have an abundance of boards with jewelry; because I do, aptly each is named "I Like Pretties": Piece of Jewlery.
Upon occasion I see an idea on Pinterest and my initial thought is *Mind Blown*. Some people that have come before me are just way more creative than I am. I like to think I'm crafty, but sometimes I surprise myself with high expectations I have and realize "Nope, I'm not as crafty as I think".
I saw a gratitude jar.
The idea was simple. You get a jar/container/vessel and drop pieces of paper in it daily for a year with a blurb you hand write of something you're grateful for on that given day. The end result is you open it up on New Year's Eve at the end of your start year and look back at things you are thankful for, things you may have forgotten. In doing such you challenge yourself to focus on positives and not on negatives. As a society we focus on negatives much easier than positives, we dwell on them, we fixate. I for one am guilty and lead the pack of negative memories.
I got an old canister I had and cleaned it up. My mom was able to find chalkboard tape and she picked up some chalk for me. The prep was simple. The idea was simple.

I'm not sure I can really add this project to my craft portfolio, because after all I even ended up smudging my chalk, but I went with it. I can say that each night as I take my watch off and put it in my watch box I grab a slip of paper, write the date and my grateful thought and drop it in.
The journey I am on was unexpected and it is unpredictable. As with life, each day is unknown, but if I can find at least one thing in each day I'm grateful for, I think I'm succeeding. And when I get to look back on my grateful thoughts, I get to relive each and every one of them.
