A resume is a way of selling yourself. Showing what you know. Telling yourself what you know. What you can do. What you have done.
It should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway, my resume isn't exactly a 'by the book' layout or look. In fact the past two jobs I've had, it has been noted by both my former employer, as well as my current employer, that my resume caught their attention. I'd like to believe it was my skill set and accomplishments that caught their attention, which ultimately it may have been those qualifications along with my stunning self; but in reality it was that my resume stands out. It has large green lettering and bullet points that aren't exactly bullet points, but rather symbols. It doesn't state the boring "I like to interact with my coworkers in a rewarding environment". Instead in the 'Interests' section it says I like to brew my own beer and know how things work.
Is my resume what this is about? Well, in part. But not my professional resume. The 'Holy Foo-Foo' "I have an athletic resume"!
Now a year ago at this time I was mentally preparing to go on a cross country vacation a month later with Will to Florida to visit his family. We had went the year prior and it was amazing. No agenda. No schedule. Limited cell phone service. Beachfront sunrises and sunsets. Walking on a beach with the Ocean crashing next to us. Quiet wooded sleeping. Time spent with Will's family and friends. I was sad to leave. Just typing that I'm sad I'm not there right now. So it went without saying that I was looking forward to our vacation. And it also goes without saying the methodical planner in me really does start mentally (and in part physically) packing a month ahead of time.
We didn't make it on vacation. In fact, the day we were supposed to leave on vacation Will was released from the hospital having torn his spine. We spent our vacation at home on the couch watching a ridiculous amount of The World Cup. I documented each day with photos of ourselves, photos of our food, and the couple of short adventures we went on we made the most out of.
I didn't know at that time that our in home vacation would less than a year later lead to what I'm calling an athletic resume. I've mentioned before it was Will unfortunately getting injured that brought me to working out and now thus a hectic schedule that I wouldn't change for anything. A year ago at this time I considered the fact that I once used to bike a lot; made me a cyclist and kept me in shape. And a year ago at this time I considered that I once ran, but then was in my accident, then had 9 knee surgeries, meant that I used to run and kept in shape. And a year ago at this time I considered walking my dogs exercise and thought I was 'in shape' because I did that.
A year ago at this time I was lying to myself. In fact, I'm pretty sure I had been lying to myself for quite some time. And now a year later I can say that in the process of 8 days in total I completed an Indoor Triathlon, a 5k Run, and a Half Marathon. All things that a year ago at this time didn't even hit my radar of things to even think about, let alone participate in.
And to think, they always say one things leads to another. I may have missed the beach and relaxation last year on our cancelled vacation, but I think getting to enjoy my daily life more won out.

A photo from our Florida vacation in 2013 with the Dunes behind us. And this photo makes me miss those sunglasses.

A photo from our in-home vacation. The first day Will was able to sit up straight and move around for hours.
